Dr. Keith L. Clark has been a member of the AVDS (American Veterinary Dental Society) since 2001. Pet Vet Hospital and Wellness Center is Spokane Valley's only source for oral digital radiography and advanced dentistry including endodontics (root canals), oral surgery and laser therapeutic therapy.
Veterinary Dentistry has become more specialized and technology has allowed diagnostics and treatments not previously available. This area of veterinary medicine is becoming more sophisticated and requires increased investments in education and equipment. Not every Veterinarian has interest in this specific area of veterinary medicine. It is important for you to understand the various levels of veterinary dentistry being offered so that you can determine what is right for you and your pet.
Basic Dentistry- This is not ideal. At this level you're working without specialized dental equipment and mainly performing dental cleanings and easier extractions. Without dental radiography equipment, some dental disease will go undetected. Much of the work is performed by technicians (sometimes assistants) with doctors handling extractions.
Comprehensive Dental Care- At this level you're more proactive, and your level of care is close to that of a typical human dentist. In addition to cleaning teeth, you're also looking for periodontal disease by performing radiography. You're extracting diseased teeth and doing minor repair work.
Advanced Dental Care- This type of service includes endodontics (root canals) fillings, and reconstructive surgery.
